The American WideScreen Museum Exhaustive (and sometimes exhausting) site dedicated to the development of color and sound on the wide screen.

Early Cinema aims to provide an introduction to the first decade of motion pictures.

Film Sound
is an excellent resource on the art of sound in film. Spend a few minutes exploring the craft of designing film sound and you’ll never hear a film the same way again. Good links to free databases of sound effects.

The Greatest Films
is an extensive guide to cinema. Parental discretion recommended.

History and Current Events

Ask Asia– the Asia Society’s educational resources for k-12 pupils.

Calendars through the Ages explores calendars from the Ancient Maya to the present, including not only the global standard calendar but also the ancient and still-used Chinese, Indian, Islamic, and Jewish calendars.

Castles of the World– learn all about castles, and visit many virtually. Warning — site may be slow to load.

Circle of Stories offers an introduction to indigenous American storytelling traditions.

Cold War History: The Berlin Wall

Eyewitness to History first person accounts, of livinghistory.

Future History: Tales of Future Past opens a window on how people of the past imagined the future — which is, of course, our present.

A Database of Free Online Language Courses, very extensive, with resources on a remarkable variety of languages.

Ancient Scripts is a Ffantastic site, a labor of love by a devoted student of linguistics.

BBC language courses in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Greek, etc.

China Radio International course in Chinese.

Deutsche Welle offers an amusing German language course and other resources.

Fun with Arabic
is a beautiful site for those interested in learning the language or just dabbling.

Ukindia offers courses in Arabic and Hindi.

Music

Ancient Greek Music
offers Recordings of every fragment of ancient Greek music. Great links to sites on Homeric singing, ancient Greek pronounciation and ancient near Eastern music.
